North Shore LIJ named Official Health Care System of the New York Lizards

Garden City, NY – March 5, 2014 --The New York Lizards are excited to announce a two-year partnership with the North Shore-LIJ Health System as the Official Health System of the team. North Shore-LIJ and Plancher Orthopaedics will also be the Exclusive Orthopaedic Providers to the Lizards. Dr. Nicholas Sgaglione and Dr. Kevin Plancher will serve as Co-Head Team Physicians throughout the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

Dr. Nicholas Sgaglione is chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the health system and a professor at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine. He also serves as the senior vice president for orthopedics for the health system and executive director of the Orthopaedic Institute.

Dr.  Sgaglione has been in clinical practice for more than 24 years in Great Neck, New York.  He graduated from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York followed by a fellowship in sports medicine at the Southern California Orthopaedic Institute in Los Angeles. Dr. Kevin Plancher is Associate Clinical Professor of Orthopaedics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He is also Fellowship Director of an ACGME accredited sports medicine fellowship and serves as Chairman of one of the largest orthopaedic conferences in the U.S. Dr. Plancher graduated from Georgetown University and completed his residency at the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Program. After having completed a fellowship at the Indiana Hand Center and at the world-renowned Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Vail, CO, he specializes in shoulder and knee reconstruction, as well as hand and microvascular surgery.
