Monster's Kids was an idea that Tim Goettelmann came up with while reading the book Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak to his children. As he read, he began to think about how fortunate he and his wife were to have healthy children. It was at this time that he decided he wanted to start a charity that could help children in need of medical care. What excites Tim about Monster's Kids is that he was able to take two things that he is very passionate about, children and lacrosse, and combine them into a successful charity. Tim, his wife Lisa, and their longtime friends Dan and Kristen Denihan contacted to CCMC and spent an unforgettable afternoon with the children there. After touring Cohen Children's Medical Center, the Goettelmanns and the Denihans were so pleased with the caring staff and the facility that they decided to designate the hospital as the permanent beneficiary of Monster's Kids. The idea of Monster’s Kids became a reality in 2009 and it received significant support from the Long Island Lizards organization and from Major League Lacrosse to get this new charity up and running. In almost three years, Monster's Kids has raised nearly $125,000 for the NICU, Child Life and the Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics Unit.
