Lizards Hire New Dance Team Director and Choreographer
The Long Island Lizards are excited to welcome Paula Sanders to the Lizards family as the Director and Choreographer of the Lizards Dance Team.
Paula, a Long Island native, has been dancing her entire life. Both of her parents are professional dancers and own dance studios on Long Island. “Since my parents are studio owners, I began dancing as soon as I was able to walk. I didn't get really serious into dancing until I was about 9 years old. I spent my whole adolescent and teen years at dance competitions and conventions around the country. I was so lucky to come from an amazing dance school with some very talented teachers and choreographers.”
Paula joins the Lizards with an impressive dance resume, “I studied with some of the best. David Sanders, Stacy Tookey, Calen Kurka and Scoot Jovovich all taught at my home studio. Before graduating high school I had already racked up a great resume. Several regional and national titles from dance competitions, I performed on Regis and Kathy Lee with Paula Abdul, danced with Donna Summers at Bette Midler’s annual Hulaween Ball, visited Germany and Austria for Tansomer dance festival and performed on some of NYC's most famous stages such as the St. James Theatre and Jazz at Lincoln Center.”
Paula also spent two seasons with the New York Knicks as one of the Knicks City Dancers. “Performing at Madison Square Garden was a dream come true. I learned so much about the industry during my time with the Knicks and was able to work with NYC and LA’s most coveted choreographers and dance with NYC’s most talented dancers. I was able to go to Milan and Paris with the team, perform on several morning shows as well as the dance reality series The Dance Scene with former Knicks City Dancer, Sarah Mitchell on the E! Network.”
Paula’s most recent endeavor has been working with Real Housewives of New Jersey star, Melissa Gorga. After spending a year dancing for her, Paula has recently become Melissa’s choreographer, performing with her on Bravo TV’s Watch What Happens Live, and choreographing and dancing in the music video for Melissa’s new single, “I Just Wanna”.
Even though she might be new to the sport of lacrosse, Paula says she can’t wait to get started with the Lizards. “I am so excited to begin my new adventure with the Lizards. I am also happy that another platform had been created for NYC dancers! I plan on creating a team that will blow the fans away... amazing dancers and fierce choreography. I love what I do and I am so excited to get started with a new team! I am so motivated to make this team an asset to the organization as well as an asset to the lives of the lucky ladies that are chosen. I love working with dancers and I love seeing dancers WORK. I am really looking forward to getting into rehearsal with these girls, pulling out the best in every single dancer, and overseeing them grow together as a team.”
Auditions for the Lizards Dance Team will be held on Saturday December 1st at 1:00PM. For more information please contact psanders@nylizards.com.
