With the Supplemental Draft officially opening up the 2014 season and allowing teams to expand their rosters for the first time this off-season, the Lizards have picked up female goalie Devon Wills from the player pool.
Wills is currently in her second season an assistant coach and defensive coordinator at the University of Southern California. Before joining the Trojans, Willis spent two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Denver.
A graduate of Dartmouth College, Wills currently ranks second on the school’s all-time saves list with 538 career saves and a 7.14 goals against average. She was a three-time member of the All-Ivy first team and named an All-American three seasons throughout her college career.
Devon was a member of the Team USA Developmental program from 2003-2006. In 2007 she was named to the World Cup training roster and has served as the team’s goalie ever since. As a member of Team USA, she won two gold medals in 2009 and 2013. In 2013, she was named to the FIL World Cup All-World Team and in 2009 she was named Player of the Match for the championship game, where she made eight saves and allowed just five goals in the US team’s win over Australia.
"Medallion Financial has been one of the biggest proponents of women and minority businesses having invested over $2 billion with them" said Lizard's owner and president of Medallion Financial, Andrew Murstein . "Through our ownership of Richard Petty Motorsports in NASCAR, we've seen first-hand how great it is for a sport to have a woman athlete compete effectively at the highest level. Lacrosse is already one of the fastest growing sports in the US and this will only further accelerate that growth. Devon is a terrific young woman who is a great role model to female athletes everywhere."
