20 Questions with Jerry Ragonese

January 12, 2017
If you follow Jerry Ragonese on Instagram, you’re already aware of his hobbies and interests off the field. If not, his most recent posts consist mainly of his awesome face off athletes he trains every week as a coach (and co-founder) of the Face Off Academy, recipes of various types but all plated beautifully enough to make your mouth water, and one very adorable photo of one of his pups wrapped in Christmas lights.

When it came time for our fans to ask Jerry some of their best questions, there was no shortage of curiosity about his skills in the kitchen. And of course your obligatory mesh and dedication to lacrosse related questions.

We asked Jerry to have fun with answering your questions, and he sure did. Take a look ahead to see if your questions made the cut this week!

1. What could you see yourself doing if you never found lacrosse? - Submitted by Tanner B.
JR: I wouldn’t have gone to college if it had not been for lacrosse so probably working at the family business, P. Ragonese & Sons going 100 years strong.

2. What got you into lacrosse? -  Submitted by Sam M.
JR: Baseball was boring, I used to bring my Gameboy to games to play while I was waiting to go up to bat. A friend’s dad told me I was playing lacrosse next season and I just went with it.

3. What mesh do you use? -  Submitted by Nate H.
JR: Only the best. East Coast Dyes Hero mesh.

4. Favorite restaurant? -  Submitted by Mark L.
JR: Richard Blais’ Juniper and Ivy in San Diego, California. Had the best meal of my life there and he’s a big lax fan.

5. Who taught you to cook Japanese food so well? -  Submitted by Tony G.
JR: YouTube. All things in life can be learned on the Youtube.

6. Udon or Soba? -  Submitted by Josh W.
JR: Ramen.

7. Favorite college football team? -  Submitted by Najee H.
JR: The Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers. Undefeated since 1978.

8. Would you get a pet dragon if you could? -  Submitted by Ryan M.
JR: Depends on the size of said dragon. If its pony sized, then yes but anything larger would be a burden and I don’t think I would be able to house it properly. Wouldn’t be fair to the dragon.

9. What do you love most about lacrosse? -  Submitted by Nick C.
JR: Sports and Friendship

10. Your favorite go-to recipe? -  Submitted by Caroline L.
JR: Hard to beat a dozen properly fried and sauced Buffalo wings.

11. Dream car? -  Submitted by Sam B.
JR: Nissan Skyline GTR NISMO spec.

12. What kind of lacrosse head do you use? -  Submitted by Davey V.
JR: Currently taking the Golf Bag approach (different heads for different occasions) and have 5 different heads in my bag, STX duel, Warrior Noz2, Brine Dictator ST and Warrior Original blade (not to be confused with the OG).

13. Favorite teammate and why? -  Submitted by Conor J.
JR: Kevin Unterstien, we have a lot of fun together and get to goof around a lot.

14. Do you like coaching or playing more and why? -  Submitted by Tyler N.
JR: Playing, as you only get to do it for a short amount of time in life. Coaching brings me a ton of joy and I look forward to doing that as long as I can.

15. Best piece of advice you've ever given as a coach? -  Submitted by Shannon L.
JR: I don’t think I’ve ever had a good one liner that has changed anyone's life, but I think “never take yourself too seriously” is important for athletes and non athletes alike.

16. What's one rule you'd change in the MLL? -  Submitted by Kate R.
JR: No rule changes for me. If refs would enforce the rules we have now I’d be a happy camper.

17. If you were elected president for a day, what would you do with that power? -  Submitted by Eric C.
JR: Open Chick-Fil-A on Sunday.

18. Most difficult recipe/dish you've ever attempted? -  Submitted by Thomas S.
JR: Sushi donut was tedious. Most technical, a good Ramen stock, still tinkering with my recipe.

19. Do you have any weird or hidden talents? –  Submitted by Connor B.
JR: I can puke on command.

20. Do you have any nicknames? -  Submitted by  Kyle K.
JR: Some have called me “the other face off guy on the Lizards.”
